MAKKAH: An 11-year-old girl who has allegedly been repeatedly raped by her father and brother was handed into the custody of her mother by the Makkah Social Protection Committee.
The girl was handed into the custody of the mother, who is separated from the father, as a precautionary measure while investigations continue.
Noticing that the girl was withdrawn in class, a teacher won her confidence and asked her what had happened.
The girl then confided that she had been raped by her father and brother, and that the abuse had been taking place over a period of time.
The teacher then informed the Girls’ Education Administration, the Human Rights Commission and the Social Affairs Department. Various committees visited the school and asked the school’s administration to bring the mother in for questioning.
The mother confessed that she knew about the abuse but remained silent because she was afraid of her estranged husband.
Both the girl and father are Yemeni nationals.
The Social Protection Committee consists of representatives from the Makkah Governorate, the police, the Health Affairs Department and the Education Administration.
