THANE: The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief and federal Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar said here yesterday that it is only the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) which has the capability to provide a stable government in the country.
Addressing a campaign rally held for the party candidate Vasant Davkare in Kalyan town of Thane district for the Kalyan Lok Sabha constituency, Pawar warned that the divisive forces must be checked to save the country from being disintegrated.
“If the country has to be saved from the twin threats of the Taleban in the neighboring country, and the economic slowdown, then again we should be returned to power. Only we have the strength to deliver the goods and inflict blows to those who dare to cast evil eye on our country,” he said.
“During the past five years, it was only the government led by Manmohan Singh which has made several countries in the world take note of the growing prowess of India,” Pawar said.
Pawar further stated that Maharashtra has the strength to make the country stronger and that the state can create history. “If this history and honor have to come to Maharashtra then the responsibility of electing the Congress-NCP alliance candidates has to be accepted,” he said.
Earlier, speaking at North Indian convention in Ghatkopar suburb of Mumbai, Pawar warned that if anti-migrant forces, an indirect reference to Shiv Sena and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, are not kept at bay, then India too will be on the similar wavelength as that of Pakistan where hostile elements like Taleban are creating havoc.
“There are attempts to divide the country on the lines of religion and language, which can hamper development.” He urged the people to keep the communal and anti-migrant and language-related forces at a long distance.
“Today in the country there are various elements, which are creating divisions in the name of caste and religion, and some in the name of language and migration. They are helping spread hate, due to which there is an atmosphere of fear prevailing all around,” Pawar cautioned.
