MAKKAH: The Monitoring Committee at the Makkah governorate has demolished more than 200 walls built by land grabbers in the village of Allihianiah, located north of Makkah.
The land, which belonged to the government, was recovered with the help of the police, the Civil Defense, the Red Crescent and the traffic police. Some of the land had residential structures while others were surrounded with concrete fences. Saud Al-Shibani, head of the Monitoring Committee, said land grabbers did not put up any resistance.
Abdulsattar Sheqdar, head of the Makkah municipality’s Sharai branch, said stopping people from taking government-owned land is one of the municipality’s priorities. He noted that Sharai municipality has retrieved several plots of land — including parts of a cemetery — in Al-Rashidiah.
