JEDDAH: The left wing of a Saudi Arabian Airlines aircraft was damaged heavily when the plane deviated from the runway while landing at King Khaled International Airport in Riyadh yesterday afternoon, said Abdul Hameed Abalarry, spokesman of the General Authority of Civil Aviation. The accident did not cause any death or injuries. Saudia Flight 9061 only had eight crew members on board.
The incident took place at 3:56 p.m. The plane took off from King Abdul Aziz International Airport in Jeddah. “After landing on tarmac 15, the plane skidded to the right side and crossed to branch runway G4. It stopped with its nose hitting soil before settling on its left wing,” the spokesman explained.
The rescue teams responded quickly and the crew disembarked using emergency slides. An investigation has been launched.
