JEDDAH: The Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) will soon be offering notarization services through automated tellers, Muhieddin Hakami, director of IT at the chamber, told Arab News on Thursday.
“No need for customers to stand for a long time at the employees’ windows waiting to process their papers,” said Hakami. “It will only take a minute to complete the attestation process when the system starts working.”
He did not specify when exactly this new service would start but said it was within the gradual change from the old system to the new electronic one.
Hakami said all the 12 Saudi chambers would also soon resort to a new electronic attestation system via the Internet.
“From anywhere in the world people will be able to attest their papers and documents at the JCCI without the need to go through the old traditional system that consumes much time and effort,” he said. The chamber on Thursday announced that it would offer its attestation services locally to customers 24 hours a day starting Aug. 1.
“Under the new system, the Saudi chambers can make more than five million attestations a year including more than 1.2 million by the JCCI alone,” Hakami said. “Services with other government departments will be integrated specially that the trend now is to go from manual to electronic. The system will also reduce the possibility of forging papers.”
Hakami said starting Aug. 1, the JCCI would remove all fax machines currently being used to check signatures and data will be routed through the Internet.
He also said the 12 attestation offices of the chamber in Jeddah in addition to the other three offices in each of Laith, Qunfudah and Rabigh would be supplied with computers to replace their fax machines.
