MAKKAH: Members of the same family submitted 6,000 out of the 7,765 falsified flood-compensation claims from Bahra district, Civil Defense in Makkah Brig. Jameel Arbaeen told Arab News on Saturday.
However, details behind this one family’s alleged responsibility for three-fourths of all fake claims from this part of the city were not provided.
Names were not released and punitive measures, if any, were not disclosed. One man submitted 220 other fake claims while three individuals submitted 218 requests.
The authorities did not disclose the names of the people filing false damages or if any charges would be filed for alleged attempts to embezzle flood-damage compensation.
Arbaeen said that 11,405 families and individuals benefited from the government’s flood-compensation program in Makkah.
Out of this list of claims deemed legitimate, money will be disbursed in the next couple of weeks to repair or replace 259 houses, 415 vehicles, two animal feed factories, five farms and 90 shops. Arbaeen also said compensation will be given for the loss of 10,533 heads of livestock.
