The Anatolia news agency says Ozan Kilinc was convicted Wednesday for publishing headlines, articles, or photographs deemed to be Kurdish rebel propaganda in 12 separate issues of the Kurdish-language Azadiya Welat newspaper.

Kilinc was expected to appeal the sentence.

Neither Kilinc nor his lawyer, Servet Ozen, could be reached for comment Thursday. Their telephone lines were redirected to a police headquarters.

Several Kurdish activists have received prison terms for acts considered to be propaganda on behalf of the Kurdistan Workers' Party, or PKK. The group is considered a terrorist organization.
