- JEDDAH: The National Society for Human Rights (NSHR) is working to expedite the case of 20 Pakistanis who were arrested for attempting to travel on forged passports in February 2009 while they were boarding a plane in Jeddah, an informed source said on Saturday.
All of them are seeking pardon.
The arrested Pakistanis were first interrogated by the Anti Forgery Department and then sent to Jeddah’s Bariman General Prison.
NSHR intervened because the prisoners have not been brought to trial even though a year has passed since their arrest. Although security issues involved in the case is one reasons for the delay in their release, NSHR has blamed consulates of foreign countries in the Kingdom for the delay in settling issues of expatriates under trial.
