Indian Consul General Sayeed Ahmed Baba welcomed the guests and introduced the movie, one of India’s blockbusters released in 2008. Shah Rukh Khan, who has earned the nickname “Bollywood king” is its lead actor.

Bollywood is India’s film industry in Mumbai and it annually produces a significant number of movies mainly in Hindi. Together with other moviemaking centers in other parts of India, the country has remained the largest producer of movies in the world.

The story of “Om Shanti Om” revolves around Om Prakash Makhija, the movie’s hero played by Shah Rukh Khan, and Shanti Priya, the female lead played by Deepika Padukone in the first movie of her career.

The story goes back to 1970’s Bollywood film industry when Om was a junior artist and Shanti a superstar. He was her biggest fan and she was his biggest inspiration. He was madly in love and she was ready to give up everything she had for love. He felt betrayed in life and she felt betrayed in love. And then began the saga of “Om Shanti Om.” The 162-minute movie in Hindi with English subtitles is produced by Gauri Khan, wife of the movie’s actor, and directed and choreographed by Farah Khan.  Indian movies are known for their music and dance and this movie has some foot-tapping numbers composed by the Vishal-Shekhar duo.

One highlight of the movie, which has Shreyas Talpade, Arjun Rampal and Kirron Kher in supporting roles, is more than 42 well-known Bollywood stars appear in the course of the film, including 30 of them (not including the stars of the film) in just one song.

China will screen a documentary on colorful seasons of the country and a feature film “Where is My Home’ at the same venue on Saturday.
