Zafar said the new tower, which will have the capacity to hold 300 beds, will be built behind the present King Faisal Hospital on a 80,000 square meter plot of land that was previously occupied by a medical supplies building.

Zafar said the new tower will include a basement that will house a warehouse, a kitchen and an archives room; a ground floor that will include an emergency ward, an X-ray section, outpatient clinics, a pharmacy and a laboratory; a first floor which will have operation theatres, a renal section and an intensive care unit; a second floor for services and five floors of hospital wards.

King Faisal Hospital was built during the reign of King Faisal for use during the annual Haj. It was opened as a regular general hospital in 1980 with a capacity of 200 beds.

This will be the third hospital that is presently being built in Makkah. The two others are Ajyad Hospital and King Abdul Aziz Hospital.
