Yes, your company may or may not agree to the release. But for the increase in responsibilities, it is your right to ask for a raise. If they do not agree and you find it unfair, you may complain to the Labor Office in your area.

If your company doesn’t already have a charter explaining the rule and regulations, as is required by law, the Ministry of Labor has a template of bylaws that might be useful. You can obtain it from the ministry or ask a lawyer to provide it. It contains a list of rules and penalties that are considered acceptable justifications for solving these types of problems. You can create your own version of these rules and have the ministry approve it.

It’s very important to have everything in writing. Have your rules in writing. If a worker violates any of these rules, don’t confront the worker verbally without also having your issues written out in writing, including an explanation of the penalties for breaking the rules. Ask the worker to respond to the letter in writing. The employee will turn into a  disciplined worker or run away. If the worker complains to the Labor Office, you should be able to prove that you attempted to reconcile with the worker by showing the rules and any correspondence you have related to communications between you and the worker in question.

As far as inaccurate contact information: It’s up to you to keep tabs on this by asking workers to fill in contact information accurately and thoroughly, including physical addresses and who else to contact in cases of emergencies. That way you will have an alternative address if you need to find an absconding worker.

ASaudi must gain permission from the Interior Ministry to marry a foreign spouse. This is not in accordance with Islam; it’s simply a rule the government instated when Saudi men began marrying foreign women en masse. As to a woman continuing to use her maiden surname: In Islam a woman retains her individual personality as a spouse and her financial status remains separate from her husband; she can act separately in her wealth without the husband’s permission or interference. What we see today in Saudi Arabia of compelling women to have male custodians is not according to Islamic teachings. Instead this is a tradition. When husbands cannot get permission to marry foreign women, many resort to bring them to the country as maids.
