The men were identified as a Saudi, a Yemeni and two Palestinians. The men were stopping drivers and robbing them.

Spokesman of the Jeddah police Col. Misfir Al-Juaid said the police ambushed the gang while in the middle of one of their criminal acts. He said one of the gang members fled, leaving his car behind.

Al-Juaid said the three other criminals were apprehended and the description of the fugitive was circulated among various police stations in the Kingdom that led to his arrest. He added that communications equipment was found in the car.

Police of Safa district in north Jeddah also arrested an unknown number of men posing as police officers and targeting foreigners. Police responded to a tip off from two foreign laborers who said men posing as cops stole their iqamas and SR2,500 in cash.

He urged citizens and expatriates to make sure of the identity of anyone who stops them in his capacity as a policeman and not to hesitate to report the incident to the police in case of any doubt or suspicion.
