“The achievement rate is nine percent higher than the 84 percent in 2008,” the report said.

Jeddah City Gov. Prince Mishaal bin Majed and Director of Jeddah Police Maj. Gen. Ali Al-Saadi submitted the report to Prince Khaled at his office.

Embezzlement crimes were up 27 percent in the year compared to 2008, the report said, adding that 91 percent of cases involving physical assaults, including murder, were solved.

The study said theft cases fell by 16 percent compared to the previous year.

The report noted that 95 percent other types of criminal cases were solved.

Prince Khaled congratulated the police department for its remarkable achievement.

Gen. Al-Saadi thanked the governor and the Ministry of Interior for providing his department with all the means to fulfill their tasks.

“The success of the police in their fight against crime is undoubtedly the result of the concerted efforts of police and other branches of security machinery,” Al-Saadi said.

The official added that the professional approach adopted by security departments was a major factor in their success in preventing crimes before their happening in many instances.

The police also stressed the role played by citizens and expatriates in maintaining security in the area. “All these factors contributed to achieving this success. I hope that the rate of achievements will increase in the coming years.”
