- ISLAMABAD: Pakistani Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani is likely to meet his Indian counterpart Manmohan Singh in Washington on the sidelines of an international nuclear summit next month, senior Pakistani officials told Arab News on Wednesday.
They said Pakistan wanted to build on talks held at the last summit in the Egyptian city of Sharm Al-Sheikh.
They added that while the outcome of secretarial-level talks in Delhi was inconclusive, they hoped a meeting between the two premiers would help in the resumption of the ‘Composite Dialogue’.
Earlier, Pakistani Foreign Office spokesman Abdul Basit had told journalists the government was hopeful India would respond positively.
Gilani will lead an important delegation to Washington's nuclear summit, officials said.
During an interview with a television channel recently the prime minister said Singh's visit to Saudi Arabia would not affect Pakistani interests. He also emphasized on the need to settle all disputes with India.
