- JEDDAH: Jeddah police have stopped a Yemeni worker from escaping the country after he accidentally killed a colleague at work, Al-Madinah newspaper reported.
- The Yemeni worker buried the victim under a pile of dirt by accident when operating a truck’s loading equipment.
Investigators at Al-Samer police station uncovered the mystery of the accident, which happened in a concrete factory east of Jeddah. Other workers found the victim missing and went searching for him.
When they visited the location where he was last seen, they found the truck, which was still running, next to the pile of dirt. The driver was missing. The co-workers started digging and found the body. They then notified police, who launched an investigation.
They suspected the Yemeni truck driver and launched a manhunt. The worker was arrested on the highway leading south.
Police said the man was trying to smuggle himself back to Yemen. He was brought back to the police station for questioning, where he confessed to the killing. He told police he did not know the victim was standing behind the truck when he was emptying his load.
Police said the death is considered accidental and there was no criminal motive behind it.
