Rizwan Ansari said he was unable to continue in his position because of the increase in crime in Nepal which he was not given powers from the government to deal with. Ansari belongs to Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal's Communist Party of Nepal United Marxist Leninist.

The Federation of Nepal Chamber of Commerce and Industries has threatened to close industries across Nepal if the security situation does not improve. They claimed increase in extortion demands from criminal gangs and threats to kill them if their demands are not met.
