The incident took place last week when Anwar’s 20-year-old mother, who lives with her husband’s first wife, was busy with chores in another room and heard Anwar screaming and crying.

The two wives apparently had a dispute, with the first wife craving revenge afterward.

Later, the mother found her daughter with Clorox all over her face. She immediately called her brothers who took the child to a local hospital and alerted police. The first wife then allegedly confessed to splashing the household cleaner on Anwar’s face.

The Human Rights Commission (HRC) in the Eastern Province intervened to help Anwar and contacted KKESH to assist.

According to local reports, director of the HRC in the Eastern Province, Ibrahim Asiri, said that they received a final medical report on Thursday, which stated that Anwar has a burn in her cornea.

Other reports stated that Anwar’s right eye was more damaged than the left, while her digestive system was weak and she was vomiting due to her young age and poor health.

The first wife is currently being detained at a social care home for girls in Al-Ahsa due to her young age. She is waiting for her case to be taken over by the Investigation and Prosecution Board. According to Asiri, the incident is the first of its kind in the Eastern Province.

Anwar’s mother married her husband after he divorced his first wife. The pair later reconciled and the three of them were living together in the same house.

Mohammed Al-Meaddi, HRC media coordinator, said that they are looking after the child’s case and receiving updates on her health.

“The offender is under investigation from concerned authorities,” he said, adding that the child is a victim of domestic disputes and violence.

“Anwar’s condition is getting better and we are still waiting for the investigation to finish,” he added.
