“This comes at a time when families have begun returning to their homes from the places where they were temporarily sheltered,” a spokesman for the Society of Prince Majed bin Abdulaziz for Development and Social Services said on Wednesday.

The initiative, which will continue for a month, seeks to raise funds for purchasing furniture and household articles, including refrigerators, cookers and cooking ranges, carpets and beds for 200 homes in the Kilo 15 area of Jeddah.

Speaking about the initiative, Hammam Zare, general manager of the society, said: “The group’s vision is to empower society and thus provide citizens across Saudi Arabia with a better standard of living, especially for those who need it the most. By undertaking social development programs such as this, we will be helping 200 of the most needy families in a positive and practical way.”

Turki bin Moammar, trade relations manager at Modern Products Company (MPC), said: “It is our mission to touch and improve consumers’ lives every day. And as part of our commitment to the local community, MPC has launched a relief campaign under its social program ‘Tawasol’.”

The society has linked with MPC to launch the campaign. By donating 10 percent from the sales of certain MPC branded products, the company plans to raise a total of SR1 million for this cause.
