SULB is a joint venture between Bahrain's Gulf United Steel Holding Co. (Foulath) and Japan's Yamato Kogyo Co.

The first consortium consists of Japan's Kobe Steel and Midrex of the United States, SULB said. The second group consists of Germany's SMS Concast and SMS Meer, part of the SMS Group and Samsung Engineering.

"This is the final milestone to implementing the SULB project and we are pleased to have these world leading industrial engineering and construction companies on board," said Khalid Al-Qadeeri, Chairman & Managing Director of SULB in a statement.

SULB did not mention the value of the contracts.

Work by the two consortiums will commence immediately and SULB expects to begin commercial operations and the production of medium and heavy beams and structural sections by the second half of 2012.
