The organization announced on Thursday that the 500-square-meter, SR30-million facility was completed and would begin accepting residents “in five months time.”

The new shelter is named after Anjah Binzagr, the late wife of businessman Abdullah Abbar, who donated SR10 million for the construction of the building. Construction on the project began in 2005.

Mazen Batarji, chairman of the board of directors of the society, said the home would accommodate poor and orphaned men over the age of 18 who are pursuing degrees in higher education.

“We want them to run their lives away from any guardianship,” said Batarji.

Majdi Bakhraibah, general supervisor of the home, said the facility has a car park, a prayer area, a reception room, a meeting hall, a lecture hall and a medical clinic.

The Jeddah Welfare Society extends aid in cash, builds housing projects, organizes training sessions and conducts social research on problems facing the poor and needy in society.
