Addressing the 10th anniversary of the Charitable Society for the Care of Orphans in the Riyadh Region (Insan), he commended the support of the government and society to philanthropic projects and activities.

“There are several charitable organizations like Insan in the Kingdom. “They receive all support from the state and officials as well as from society,” he said.

Prince Salman said philanthropists in the country would be ready to support any charitable endeavor if they are assured that their money is in the right hands and would benefit deserving people.

During the ceremony, Prince Salman announced a donation of SR2 million for Insan on behalf of himself, his sons and grandchildren. Total donations raised during the event reached SR48 million.

Prince Salman honored Insan's previous directors as well as members of its previous boards of directors. He also honored major donors and sponsors who have supported the society in the past 10 years.

The number of orphans being looked after by Insan has increased to 30,000 boys and girls, said Hamoud Al-Badr, its secretary-general. The society provides them with moral and material support while they live with their natural families, he added.

Speaking to reporters after attending a meeting of the board of directors, which was chaired by Riyadh Gov. Prince Salman, Al-Badr said Insan has started building a model village to accommodate orphans facing special situations. “We have trained 2,500 orphans and most of them have got jobs,” he added.

During the last two years the society spent more than SR300 million, Al-Badr said, adding that the board approved a budget of SR175.7 million for 2010, projecting an 11 percent increase in spending during the year compared to 2009. The society has nine branches including five in Riyadh and one each in Al-Kharj, Aflaj, Dawadmi and Zulfa.

Al-Badr said Insan spent more than SR600 million during the past 10 years on various humanitarian projects for the benefit of orphans.

He disclosed plans to establish endowment towers and properties, adding that Insan would receive an annual income of SR13 million from these endowments.

The ceremony was attended by Prince Saud bin Abdullah bin Thunayan?, ?chairman of the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu?, ?Prince Nawaf bin Faisal?, ?vice president of the Youth Welfare Presidency?, ?other princes and a large number of businessmen?.?
