Baghdad International is Iraq's main airport and serves state-run Iraqi Airways, Royal Jordanian, Gulf Air, Middle East and other airlines, with flights to and from Amman, Damascus, Beirut, Istanbul and other cities, as well as internal routes. "Baghdad International Airport has been reopened for all incoming and outgoing flights," said Captain Nasir Al-Ameri, deputy manager of Iraqi Airways.

"For the Najaf airport, the maintenance operation hasn't finished yet." Aqil Kawther, a spokesman for the Iraqi Ministry of Transport, had said earlier that Baghdad airport was closed because of a "problem in the radar system" and not due to security concerns.

In recent days the Iraqi capital has been hit by a series of bombings and other attacks that killed more than 100 people.
