Patil said the police wiretapped telephone conversations between members of the Abhinav Bharat in which the Hindu militants passed derogatory remarks against Bhagwat.  On demand made by Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) legislator Jitendra Awhad, urging the government to ban the two Hindu outfits just as it had done with the Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), Patil said that the government was seriously considering the ban.

Patil also told the Assembly that the taped conversation also mentioned the use of a poisonous chemical that could be put into slippers and shoes resulting in the death of the wearer of the footwear in two to three days.

“The use of chemical in the footwear would baffle even the best of the chemical analyzer or doctors,” Patil said, adding that the conversation between the Hindu militants however did not mention the technique used in applying the chemical on footwear.
