- RIYADH — Saudi Arabia is slated to introduce an advanced electronic traffic control system within months, officials said.
- In a statement issued on Friday, the Traffic Police Directorate said the new 'Saher' system uses digital camera network technology, which is linked to the National Information Center, to control traffic violations.
The violator is caught on camera immediately and his car plate determined, the statement said, adding that the database operation room will, in no time, provide the duty police with the necessary information about the vehicle's owner, who could then be penalized.
The statement said the new system was designed to upgrade the performance of traffic police by creating a smooth accident-free or less accident-prone traffic in the cities of Saudi Arabia.
Digital cameras will be installed at major traffic lights and major crossroads, the statement said.
