The case against them has been handed over to prosecutors, the daily Al-Madinah reported on Saturday.

The directorate's initial investigations confirmed there were irregularities in records about the number of trips made by water trcuks, the capacity of trucks and approval for payments.

An internal committee that investigated the irregularities discovered the involvement of the two employees, one of whom worked in the services administration who was responsible for the water supply and the other worked in the financial department.

The directorate has since suspended payments to the water-supply contractor. 

The committee found that the officials extended the water-supply contract with a verbal agreement between the contractor and the director of the services administration. The verbal agreement was made after disqualifying other bidders saying they did not submit proper bank guarantees along with their applications.

They also discovered that the contractor did not have the mandatory commercial registration for his establishment.

It also found false records of water deliveries made during Ramadan when the schools would have been closed.

The committee reported that the two suspects threatened to disclose corruptions by other officials in the directorate if they were transferred to other departments.

Abdul Kareem Al-Hoqail, director of girls education in Jeddah, said a report on the investigation had been submitted to the Ministry of Education.
