The statistics revealed a low level of trust in the performance of the government health-care sector with 71 percent of the population preferring private care.

Meanwhile, 78 percent of the population believes that medical mistakes are common in public hospitals. Ninety percent of the population approve the participation of women in the health-care sector in general.

Half of the population agree with the application of mandatory health insurance, while 17 percent acquire medical insurance through their employers.

More than 80 participants were involved in the debate, and the dialogue came out with the recommendation of adopting international standards with regard to quality assurance, infrastructure, maintenance and equipment.

The concluding statement also recommended a fair distribution of the services demographically through building more specialized hospitals in various areas, increasing the numbers of beds and using mobile units.

The recommendations stressed the need for a complete review of the judicial system for prosecution in malpractice cases.
