- DUBAI: Dubai has established a team responsible for drawing up a financial plan for the period from 2011 to 2014.
- This decision was made by Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum, chairman of the Dubai Supreme Fiscal Committee.
This step is part of a series of financial reforms aimed at improving the efficiency of government spending, both capital and operational, and bolstering the rules that form the basis of Dubai's fiscal policy.
The team, which will be responsible for developing a medium-term financial plan and for submitting its recommendations to the Supreme Fiscal Committee, is headed by Jamal Hamed Al-Marri, director of central accounts at the Department of Finance, the Dubai government's media office said in an e-mailed statement on Sunday.
The team will include representatives from the Department of Finance, Dubai Police, Dubai Municipality, the Roads and Transport Authority, Dubai Customs, Dubai Health Authority and the Dubai Airports Authority. However, it will operate under the supervision of the Dubai Department of Finance.
The team will also provide recommendations on developing a new structure for the government's revenues, discuss and comment on the government's quarterly reports, and invite support of any third party which expertise and knowledge will be deemed necessary to achieve targeted financial objectives. Recommendations will be raised by the team to the Supreme Fiscal Committee.
Abdulrahman Al-Saleh, director general of the Department of Finance, emphasized the importance of cooperation between Dubai government departments and authorities and the government finance team, appealing for all to work closely together to achieve the sought goals within the agreed time frame.
