Canada's Alexsandra Wozniak also won in straight sets Monday by beating Lilia Osterloh 6-3, 7-6 (11/9) to reach the second round of the clay court tournament.

Wozniak, the No.12 seed, had to save eight set points, including two set points serving 5-6 in the second set and six more in the tiebreaker.

Wozniak next plays Tuesday against against qualifier Catalina Castano.

Bondarenko was the other seed to take the court on the first day of main draw, defeating the left-handed American in just 65 minutes.

Other first round winners included Magdalena Rybarikova, Angelique Kerber, Sofia Arvidsson, Ayumi Morita and Chang Kai-Chen.
 
Vinci opens defense by ousting Rezai

In Barcelona, Spain, defending champion Roberta Vinci of Italy has beaten second-seeded Aravane Rezai of France 6-3, 6-4 in the first round of the Barcelona Ladies Open.

Top-seeded Francesca Schiavone easily moved into the second round with a 6-2, 6-1 win over fellow Italian Alberta Brianti on Tuesday.

The event is being played on the outdoor clay  courts of the David Lloyd Club Turo.

Also, third-seeded Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez of Spain beat Andrea Petkovic 6-4, 6-4 of Germany, and No. 4 seed and 2008 champion Maria Kirilenko defeated Masa Zec Peskiric of Slovenia 7-5, 6-1.
