JAZAN: A suspected smuggler was killed in a shootout following a chase by police in southern Jazan province. An accomplice was arrested, Al-Madinah daily reported on Thursday. The two smugglers were traveling in a Hilux truck. When the patrol unit asked the driver to stop, he refused and fled. During the chase, a motorist tried to obstruct the movement of the patrol unit in order to ensure a safe exit for the smugglers. In the midst of this, the patrol unit fired at the smugglers' car to make it halt. Subsequently, one of the smugglers was arrested. The other succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital. Twenty-seven kilograms of qat was seized from the car.
