Entry of nearly all Palestinians from the West Bank has been barred as a security measure the army statement said.

The statement further said that the closure began at midnight Saturday night and will be lifted on midnight Tuesday following another security assessment. The Memorial Day will start on Sunday night and the Independence Day will fall on Tuesday according to Jewish calendar.

The army said that following orders of Defense Minister Ehud Barak, thousands of Palestinian workers will be barred from reaching their places of work during the closure.

The military said Palestinians in need of medical attention will be permitted to enter for care. A small number of media crews and professional groups such as lawyers and religious workers will also be allowed to cross over. Humanitarian aid will also be allowed to pass.

Israel routinely imposes a general closure upon the Palestinian territory during holidays. On late March, Israeli Army imposed a nine-day closure on West Bank on the occasion of Passover holiday.

On Early March, the army sealed off the West Bank for five days in the wake of tensions between the Palestinians and Israelis following the approval of a housing program in East Jerusalem and Israeli government's decision to include two West Bank shrines on Israel's list of heritage sites.

Meanwhile, Israeli police officers shots and moderately injured a Palestinian laborer inside Israel. The Israeli Radio said that the laborer assaulted the officers with pepper spray when they tried to arrest him in the central Israeli city of Bnei Barak.

The report added that the 25-year-old Palestinian resisted arrest and snatched the pepper spray belonging to one of the officers and sprayed them with it. Another police officer fired at his foot. The officers then arrested him. An ambulance crew was dispatched to the scene and evacuated the Palestinian and the three police officers, who sustained light injuries from the pepper spray, to the hospital in Tel Hashomer.
