- ANKARA: Turkey's prime minister said on Sunday his country will continue backing peace talks between Turkish Cypriots and Greek Cypriots in the divided island regardless of who wins Sunday's vote in northern Cyprus.
Tayyip Erdogan also told Turkey's NTV broadcaster he will seek a solution to Cyprus by the end of 2010. The divided Mediterranean island is a main obstacle to Ankara's hopes of joining the European Union.
Dervis Eroglu, who wants a broad autonomy for Turkish Cypriots, claimed victory in Sunday's presidential vote in northern Cyprus.
