Kyle Kendrick threw eight scoreless innings for Philadelphia, but Ryan Madson blew a 3-0 lead in the ninth by giving up consecutive homers to Troy Glausand Heyward.

McLouth’s homer into the right-field seats came off Jose Contreras (0-1). Madson took his first blown save in four chances.

Billy Wagner(1-0) pitched a perfect 10th.

In Washington, Jorge De La Rosa had a three-run double in an eight-run third inning in a game played hours after the Rockies learned of the death of their team president.

Keli McGregor, who had been the team’s president since 2001 and in the organization since Oct. 1993, was found dead Tuesday morning in a Salt Lake City hotel room. He was 48.

The grief-stricken Rockies had their biggest inning of the year—beginning it with five straight hits. De La Rosa had his first three RBI game and was the winning pitcher despite allowing four runs and seven hits in five-plus innings. He struck out six and walked four.

In New York, Mike Pelfrey followed up his save Saturday with seven scoreless innings Tuesday night and Jose Reyes returned to the starting lineup and had a two-run triple among his four hits.

The Mets took advantage of a two-out walk to Pelfrey in the second to score the game’s first runs against a stingy Carlos Zambrano (1-2). Pinch-hitter Fernando Tatis had a two-run homer in the eighth inning for New York, which has won the first two games of a 10-game homestand.

The punchless Cubs have lost four in a row, scoring just six runs during the skid.

Pelfrey (3-0), who didn’t allow a hit until Mike Fontenot’s one-out single in the fifth, extended his scoreless streak to 19 innings, matching a career high. He allowed three hits, walked three and struck out six.

In Phoenix, Diamondbacks ace Dan Haren had a career-high four hits to overcome a shaky start and help Arizona beat St. Louis, snapping a five-game losing streak.

Haren tied a franchise record for pitchers with his four hits, set twice by Micah Owings. The last major league pitcher to get four hits in a game was the Chicago Cubs’ Carlos Zambrano on May 23, 2008.

Haren (2-1) gave up seven runs and nine hits in six innings. Chad Qualls got his second save.

Kelly Johnsonhad three doubles and Mark Reynolds hit a three-run homer off Mitchell Boggs (0-1).

Ryan Ludwick homered twice and Albert Pujols added a solo shot for the Cardinals.

In San Diego, Mat Latos prevailed in a pitching duel with Jonathan Sanchez, and San Diego beat San Francisco despite getting just one hit.

San Diego pulled even with the Giants atop the NL West, the first time the Padres have been in first place since April 18, 2009. They won their fifth straight game while the Giants lost their third straight.

Latos (1-1) and Sanchez (1-1) both went seven innings and retired their final 12 batters. Sanchez, who no-hit the Padres on July 10 in San Francisco, struck out 10 while allowing one run. He gave up only Chase Headley’s fourth-inning single and walked three.

Headley stole a career-high three bases.

Mike Adams escaped an eighth-inning jam and Heath Bell worked out of trouble in the ninth for his fourth save.

In Cincinnati, Paul Janish singled home the tiebreaking run in the eighth inning and Cincinnati blew a six-run lead before breaking its five-game losing streak.

Matt Kemphit a three-run homer in the eighth that tied it 9-all and put the onus on an LA bullpen that has been a big problem. Ramon Troncoso (1-1) walked two before Janish singled with two outs.

Mike Lincoln (1-0) got the final out that ended the Dodgers’ comeback in the eighth. Francisco Cordero pitched the ninth for his fifth save in six tries, extending Cincinnati’s penchant for dramatic wins. All six Reds victories have come off rallies in their final at-bat.

In Pitttsburgh, Dave Bush pitched seven shutout innings and the Milwaukee Brewers rocked Pittsburgh starter Charlie Morton.

Bush (1-0) allowed three hits and four walks for the Brewers, who took a big early lead for the second consecutive game.

Ryan Braun and Casey McGehee each drove in runs during both the first and second innings as Milwaukee charged Morton with six runs two days after scoring 10 in the first inning of an 11-7 win at Washington.

Morton (0-3) has allowed 20 runs and 23 hits in 10 1-3 innings this season.

Andrew McCutchen went 3-for-4 with two doubles for the Pirates, who had a three-game winning streak snapped.

In Houston, Jason Michaels hit a two-run, pinch hit homer in the eighth inning after Kaz Matsui’s sacrifice bunt scored the go-ahead run in Lance Berkman’sseason debut.

Berkman doubled and drove in two runs on groundouts to help the Astros to their first home win this season after dropping their first six at Minute Maid Park.

Hunter Pence doubled off Tim Wood (0-1) in the eighth inning before a single by Pedro Feliz. Matsui sacrificed Pence home to make it 5-4 before Michaels’ shot.

Florida’s Jorge Cantu homered and had two RBIs to extend his hitting streak to 18 games.

Brandon Lyon(1-1) pitched a perfect eighth for the win and Matt Lindstrom allowed one run in the ninth to get his third save.
