The IAF said that it based its judgment on what it called preventing Islamic students from taking part in the elections of the state-run Hashemite University.

“The usurpation of the will of students leaves no doubt that the country is heading to false and rigged parliamentary elections,” said Mohammad Zoyoud, who is in charge of the IAF internal affairs.

“The talk about ensuring free and democratic atmospheres in the coming polls is nothing more than attempts to cheat citizens who no longer have confidence in their governments which have already betrayed them in several attitudes,” he added.

King Abdallah dissolved the lower house of Parliament in November, two years before the end of its four-year term amid charges by the press and the opposition that the chamber did not truly represent the people.

He directed the government of Prime Minister Samir Rifai to arrange for fair and transparent general elections to be held in the fourth quarter of the year.

He also asked Rifai to amend the controversial election law and come up with a new legislation that guarantees true representation of the people in the new legislature.
