In Detroit, the hosts rallied for six runs in the sixth inning to beat Minnesota.

The Twins took an early 6-1 lead, and still led by a run in the sixth. With one out and a runner on first, Detroit's Johnny Damon hit a deep drive and center fielder Denard Span appeared to make a running catch.

However Span lost the ball after taking two steps, and the umpires ruled he hadn't held the ball long enough for an out, and Minnesota manager Ron Gardenhire was ejected for arguing the call.

Detroit took advantage of the error, with Brandon Boesch and Brandon Inge later hitting two-run doubles.

In Toronto, Boston won a pitcher's duel to complete a three-run sweep of Oakland.

Jon Lester (1-2) struck out 11 in seven innings, allowing only one hit in the second, which he followed by retiring 14 straight batters.

Darnell McDonald scored one run and drove in another to help the Red Sox win their sixth straight game in Toronto.

Blue Jays starter Brett Cecil (1-1) took the loss despite allowing only one run in six innings and walking just one.

In Anaheim, California, Howie Kendrick's bunt single with two outs in the ninth inning drove in the winning run for Los Angeles against Cleveland.

Torii Hunter hit a tying, three-run homer in the sixth, then a double leading off the ninth against Joe Smith (0-1).

Hideki Matsui was intentionally walked and Kendry Morales ground into a double play, moving Hunter to third. After an intentional walk to Juan Rivera, Kendrick surprised reliever Chris Perez and everyone else with a push bunt to the right of the mound.

Angels closer Brian Fuentes (1-1) got the win with a scoreless ninth, retiring Grady Sizemore on a groundout with runners at the corners.

In Kansas City, Milton Bradley scored the tiebreaking run on Rob Johnson's sacrifice fly in the eighth inning, lifting Seattle over Kansas City.

Bradley doubled to leadoff the eighth against Brad Thompson (0-1) and moved to second on a groundout. After reliever Dusty Hughes walked Casey Kotchman, Johnson hit a fly ball to left.

Ichiro Suzuki had three hits, scored a run and drove in a run for the Mariners. Suzuki had his major league-leading 11th multihit game of the season. He has a 14-game hitting streak at Kauffman Stadium, including a record eight consecutive multihit games by an opponent.

Seattle reliever Brandon League (3-1) retired all four batters he faced to take the win, and David Aardsma got the last three outs for his league-leading eighth save in nine chances.

In Arlington, Josh Hamilton's two-run homer keyed a five-run first inning that set up Texas' tight win over Chicago.

Rangers starter Rich Harden (1-1) pitched six innings despite more control problems. He allowed three runs, hit two batters and walked five, giving him 23 walks in five starts.

The White Sox were unable to capitalize until Carlos Quentin ended a 2-for-37 slide with a three-run homer in the sixth that reduced the deficit to 5-3.

Chicago's Jake Peavy (0-2) took the loss.

In Baltimore, New York took control early to defeat Baltimore.

Yankees starter C.C. Sabathia (3-1) allowed three runs in 7 2-3 innings. In 15 career appearances against the Orioles, he is 10-1. He had gone 54 innings at Camden Yards without allowing a home run until Nick Markakis went long in the seventh.

Robinson Cano homered and Nick Swisher had his second straight three-hit game for the Yankees, who built a 6-0 lead in the third inning against Jeremy Guthrie (0-3).
