- RIYADH: Despite the heavy rains on Monday, enumerators conducting the census went ahead with their work, according to Abdullatif Al-Khamees, head of the media center for the 4th National Census for Population and Housing.
“The heavy rains delayed the census in the northern and eastern parts of Riyadh but in the southern and western parts of the city it was business as usual,” Al-Khamees told Arab News.
He added that enumerators went about their jobs from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. although they could go out anytime if they had an appointment in connection with their job.
“After the last prayer on Monday evening, the rains had stopped so the enumerators could do their gathering of data. So far, so good. We hope to gather as much data as we can so I am asking all residents, legal and illegal, to cooperate with the census takers,” he said.
Al-Khamees said that Arabic and English forms were used in collecting data from Arabs and non-Arabs respectively. The information in English will, however, be translated into Arabic.
“This is because the form that will be fed into the machine that reads the information is in Arabic,” he said.
