“The objective is to create a breeding ground for future talents,” said Bakhashab who was accompanied by the representatives of sponsors including Abdul Latif Jameel Company-Toyota Yaris, Mobil 1 and Bridgestone.

“This is an important step for amateurs to develop their activities so that they could follow a safe driving technique and look forward to becoming the future champions of the world,” he added.

Malek Ben Taleb, chairman of the local private schools committee, said such events would prove beneficial to the student community during their academic and professional careers, and called for a continuity in organizing such tournaments.  The event is aimed at acquainting the boys with new activities and skills that can be developed for professional goals and also help them spend their leisure time usefully.

The participating schools include Al Manarat, Dar Al Thaghr, Talaea Al Fekr, Jeel Al Faisal (Al Safa), Jeel Al Faisal (Al Gamah), Al Ekha’a, Dar Al Bayan, Dar Al Marefah, Dar Al Zekr, Ryad Al Qur’an, Al Nasr, Al Aqsa and Al Angal. Every participating school can choose its team and spectators, and have its own playing system in place.

The school Olympics was first held in April 2006 with the participation of many private schools. The competition then proved to be a great challenge and may schools topped in some of the activities.
