“The Boys and Girls of Riyadh: Relief Team” is the name of the first group on Facebook while “We are one body” is the name of the other.

There are 4,350 members in the second group which, according to them, is supported by Gen. Saad Al-Tuwaijri, director general of Civil Defense.  “Those who are interested in joining the group may visit the Civil Defense building in Riyadh near the Passport Department office on King Fahd Road at 4 p.m. and receive their volunteer uniform,” the group said.

In their Facebook entry, The Boys and Girls of Riyadh said they wanted to play an active and effective role in relief work to alleviate the suffering of those affected by the floods.

“Our group is open to all. Those who can coordinate with any agency or organization or possess any relief material must inform us on the site,” it said.

The group has also instructed its members to fill out a form on the site in order to make clear what services can be provided. Services include first aid, traffic control, distribution of relief supplies, diving skills and assisting people to move their stalled vehicles.

It urged the public to help them with numbers of official authorities and departments in order to get official support.

It also requested the assistance of people having four-wheel-drive vehicles to move cars in trouble. “You should give correct information and should not claim you can do something which you cannot.”
