“We will not tolerate the behavior of such people who tarnish the image of our country and put our innocent women in trouble,” Kingsley Ranawake, chairman of the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau(SLBFE) told Arab News.

He added that the agent, who was currently on remand, was brought before the court on Monday and the police are conducting investigations into the matter. Ranawake said that if found guilty, the agent would face severe punishment under Sri Lanka’s immigration act.

The deceased, Habibullah Arifa, allegedly fell from a second floor window in Makkah on April 11 and died on the spot. She had come to the Kingdom on Feb. 5. Sabarullah Khan, Sri Lanka consul general in Jeddah, said Arifa was another victim of Colombo employment agents, who had sent her to the Kingdom on a false passport since she was underage.
