Riyadh authorities explained in a statement on Friday why they were brought in to investigated the case.

"Although the incident took place under the Rumaihah police area, the Riyadh police conducted the investigations to apprehend the criminal when the case was referred to Riyadh by the district police chief," the statement said. 

The case was opened after a 25-year-old Saudi went to the Rumaihah police station saying he found his 27-year-old brother was found dead from several gunshot wounds in his Land Cruiser found near a cemetery. Police used the log of a mobile phone found in the vehicle to learn that the last person to have called the victim was a cousin, who when apprehended allegedly confessed to his crime by saying he shot the man after an argument.

Police corroborated the confession with a firearm that was also discovered at the scene. Police believe the suspect was riding in the vehicle prior to the murder.

Meanwhile, the Riyadh Gov. Prince Salman commended the achievements of the Riyadh police department during the past years. Commenting on the annual report of the Riyadh Police, the governor said the actions taken by the police in the prevention and detection of crimes are highly appreciated by the authorities. The governor further pledged to offer his maximum cooperation in maintaining law and order in the region.
