Sunday's vote is being held in Beirut and the eastern Bekaa Valley and is marked largely by consensus among rival politicians although some will be closely contested in predominantly Christian areas. The main battle in Beirut is expected to be for 28 mayors in mainly Christian neighborhoods where Hezbollah's allies from the Free Patriotic Movement are squaring off against rivals supported by Western-backed groups. Another battle is expected in the Bekaa's town of Zahle. Municipal elections in Lebanon are held every six years. Last week's vote was held in Mount Lebanon and the two remaining stages will be held later this month.
