- PUNE: Although Maharashtra’s Home Minister for State Ramesh Bagwe said Mohammed Ajmal Amir Qasab, who was sentenced to death by a Special Court in Mumbai on Wednesday, would continue to remain at the Arthur Road Prison in Mumbai, there appears to be some sort of disinformation for security reasons.
It is possible Qasab may be moved to Pune or Nagpur with the former being more likely since it is home to Yerawada Central Prison and the military headquarters of the Southern Command.
Pune and Nagpur are also the only two prisons in the state that have gallows for executions.
Chandra Iyengar, the additional chief secretary (home), confirmed that the Yerawada Central Prison, which is the biggest prison in Maharashtra, was definitely on the priority list.
Iyengar stated that Arthur Road Prison is only for prisoners under trial and Qasab would be moved out of Mumbai.
