“It is important for both India and Pakistan to talk to each other,” he said.

The US ambassador further said that talks were being held on higher level to grant access and opportunity to the Indian intelligence and security agencies to interrogate the main Mumbai terror attack accused David Headley.

Roemer referred to the recent statement of the US Secretary of State Hilary Clinton who had stated transparently that if Pakistan makes sincere efforts, terror activities will not only be erased from India but also from the US.

“I want to give a firm assurance to India that any American aid given to Pakistan will strictly be utilized for the purposes for which it has been approved,” he said.

Meanwhile Roemer who arrived in Pune Wednesday afternoon from Mumbai led a moment of silence at the German Bakery after laying a wreath in memory of the victims that the February 2010 terrorist attack there.

He was received at the blast site by Neha Kharose and Smita Kharose, owners of the German Bakery, and Ramgopal Karkee, managing director of the German Bakery.
