The best-of-three series will be decided by a doubles match Wednesday.

In the Blue Group, Germany leads Argentina 1-0 after Philipp Kohlschreiber defeated Horacio Zeballos 6-3, 6-4, and France and Serbia are level at 1-1.

Paul-Henri Mathieu beat Dusan Lajovic 6-2, 6-3 before Viktor Troicki leveled for Serbia by beating Jeremy Chardy 6-4, 6-2.
 

In Strasbourg, France, Sybille Bammer of Austria rallied to beat Pauline Parmentier of France 2-6, 6-4, 7-5 Tuesday and reach the second round of the Strasbourg International.

Bammer will face Julia Goerges, who outlasted Maria Elena Camerin of Italy 5-7, 7-5, 6-1. Dia Evtimova defeated Tatjana Malek of Germany 6-4, 7-5.

The 267th-ranked Evtimova reached the second round of a WTA tour event for the first time in her career and will play top-seeded Maria Sharapova.

Bammer led 4-0 in the final set but faltered as Parmentier won five straight games to get an opportunity to serve out the match. But a double-fault from the Frenchwoman helped Bammer even it 5-5.

In other matches, Jill Craybas of the United States lost to Sofia Arvidsson 6-2, 6-1. Craybas squandered nine break points, while Arvidsson converted five of eight break chances.

Anabel Madinah Garrigues cruised past Sandra Zahlavova 6-1, 6-0, and Yvonne Meusburger beat Alla Kudryavtseva 6-4, 6-3.

Arvidsson will meet third-seeded Virginie Razzano, who defeated Chang Kai-chen 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.

Lucie Hradecka defeated Julie Coin 7-5, 6-2, and will face Madinah Garrigues.

Meusburger will take on Kristina Barrois, who edged Stephanie Foretz 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 (8). Barrois was scheduled to play fourth-seeded Peng Shuai, but she experienced dizziness and withdrew.
 

In Nice, France, fifth-seeded Marcos Baghdatis of Cyprus defeated Laurent Recouderc of France 6-4, 7-5 in the first round of the Open de Nice.

Baghdatis was initially scheduled to play Mario Ancic on Tuesday, but the Croat withdrew because of a back injury. The Cypriot dropped serve only once and will play Simon Greul of Germany.

Sergiy Stakhovsky of Ukraine defeated Andreas Seppi of Italy 7-5, 6-3 to reach the quarterfinals. Florent Serra edged Illya Marchenko of Ukraine 7-5, 7-6 (4).

Serra won the last five points of his first-round match with the help of a double-fault that gave Marchenko a 3-1 lead in the tiebreaker. The Frenchman will meet second-seeded Fernando Verdasco of Spain.

Alexandr Dolgopolov of Ukraine beat sixth-seeded Albert Montanes of Spain 6-3, 7-5. Dolgopolov had 11 aces and broke three times against Montanes, who beat Roger Federer in the Estoril Open semifinals en route to winning the title this month in Portugal.
 

In Warsaw, Poland, third-seeded Li Na’s run of good form on European clay continued when the Chinese beat Ioana Raluca Olaru of Romania 7-6 (4), 6-0 to reach the second round of the rain-disrupted Warsaw Open on Tuesday.

Li, coming off quarterfinals at Madrid and Stuttgart, and was tuning up well for the French Open, where she reached the last 16 last year.

Next up for Li will be Katarzyna Piter, who defeated another local wild card, Marta Domachowska, 7-6 (3), 4-6, 7-5, in a match that was resumed from Monday, when rain halted play after two sets.

With heavy clouds hanging over the Legia Club, Tathiana Garbin of Italy defeated Iveta Benesova of the Czech Republic 6-3, 6-4 and another Czech, Barbora Zahlavova Strycova, beat Andreja Klepac of Slovenia 6-3, 6-1.

Greta Arn of Hungary beat Petra Martic of Croatia 7-5, 6-7 (5), 6-3 in match that lasted just under three hours.
