The sources said that the occupier, Yitzchak Herchcovitch, attacked 90-year-old Shiha Hassan Ali and her 4-year-old grandson Nasrallah in the East Jerusalem's town of Beit Safafa.

According to the sources, Ali was heading to a "protest tent" she erected to protest the confiscation of her house by Israeli occupiers in mid April.

The sources said that the elderly woman sustained light wounds in several parts of her body after Herchcovitch hit her with his hands and kicked her with his feet. The sources added that the occupiers also insulted the woman. Nasrallah also sustained light wounds in the head during the attack, the sources added.

The development came as a senior defense official warned extremist occupier activity against Palestinians and their property could set the West Bank ablaze.

The Israeli daily Haaretz on Wednesday quoted the Israeli Army GOC Central Command Avi Mizrahi as saying: "I don't think something will happen anytime soon, unless there's a very serious incident on the Temple Mount or in the Cave of the Patriarchs (Al-Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron)."

However, he said he was "very anxious" about an escalation being set off by occupier violence.

"Most of the settlement movement is fine, very normal, but a mosque set on fire and another mosque set on fire adds up," Mizrahi said.

The report said that the Israeli defense officials are concerned over a series of mosque burnings in the past six months, including a fire that destroyed books and prayer rugs in a mosque near Nablus that firefighters said earlier this month was caused by arson.
