- JEDDAH: Two working teams have been set up to oversee the handover of the Musk Lake from the Jeddah municipality to the Water Ministry in preparation for its closure within a year as instructed by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah.
“Both of these teams will start their work next week,” said Jeddah Mayor Adel Fakieh, adding that they would report to the municipality and the Water Company.
He said the municipality had done a lot of work to empty the lake by stopping the unloading of sewage water in the lake and treating 20,000 cubic meters of sewage every day for irrigation purposes.
The municipality has been irrigating 10 million square meters of greenery across the city using the treated sewage water, he added.
Luay Musallam, CEO of the National Water Company, said his company would take over the lake within two months to start the emptying process.
He said the newly produced sewage water would be treated at the purification plant near the airport, which has the capacity to treat 250,000 cubic meters of water daily. He also disclosed his company’s intention to market purified sewage water.
