- JEDDAH: A seminar in Jeddah on Saturday is to focus on the problems that face education supervisors who look after children with special needs.
- Forty-two supervisors will participate in the five-day event, which will also feature an exhibition.
Director of special needs education in Jeddah Abdul Rahman Al-Ghamdi said the participants would discuss topics such as the planning of programs and activities for students with special needs and methods of integrating such students into mainstream society.
The requirements and skills needed to teach children with special needs and the role of teachers, parents and society in educating such students will also be discussed.
The tendency of ordinary schools to refuse admission to disabled children is one main obstacle to integrating them into everyday life, say education experts.
Other hurdles include the difficulty of ordinary teachers and students to interact properly with children with special needs, as well as the inability of such students to move around their school easily without relying on others.
