"It's a great honor to partner with Arab News, the leading English daily, our first strategic partner for this unique water conservation program," Al-Ghalayini said. "This partnership with selected media will help broaden the exposure of this initiative and, ultimately, address the critical issue of scarcity of water in our region. We, as members of the private sector, should play an active role in protecting the environment not only for our children but also for our grand children and for generations to come," he added.

"Our Water, Our Life' competition will be launched on June 16 during BMG Foundation's annual Polo Cup, in the presence of the event's guest speaker, Jordan's Minister of Environment Hazem Malhas. The GCC Polo Cup held in Windsor, UK at the Guards Polo Club is the ideal platform for initiating this pan-Arab competition as this prestigious event is attended by prominent personalities, including the Queen of England, members of the Saudi Royal family and leaders from across the private sector, thereby projecting the competition to a global audience.

This pioneering scheme on water conservation aims to engage the vibrant minds of the Arab youth, calling upon university students from across the Arab countries to submit the most innovative, cost efficient and creative awareness campaign aimed at guiding households on how to apply different efficient methods for water conservation. The competition will commence in July and run till the end of November, allowing the participants adequate time to design and submit their most ingenious awareness campaign.

An award ceremony honoring the top three winners will be held in December with the participation of ministers of environment and water from the Arab League countries. The first place winner's plan will be implemented during the first half of 2011. Furthermore, the final competition results will be featured in the 2010-2011 BMG Foundation magazine, with special recognition awarded to the winners of the competition, and an invitation to the first place winner to attend the 2011 GCC Polo Cup where the winner will be given the opportunity to present the winning awareness campaign to a global and elite group of attendees.

An international panel of judges will be invited to screen and evaluate all submissions and select the top three plans, with details of the selection criteria to be announced in June after the launch of the competition.
