Capt. Hassan bin Muhammad Al-Amri, spokesman for the Border Guards, told Arab News that a Border Guard patrol foiled two separate attempts to smuggle drugs into the Kingdom in Najran on Sunday. He added that 15 Yemenis and a Saudi were arrested, and that around 175.5 kg of hashish and a number of mobile phones and Saudi SIMs had been confiscated.

Brig. Abdul Rahman bin Gharamah Al-Shihri, acting commander of the Border Guards in Najran, said the arrest of smugglers shows that the Border Guards are operating effectively.

“The Border Guards are using state-of-the-art technology along the Kingdom’s borders including thermal cameras to detect smugglers and anyone trying to enter the Kingdom illegally,” he added.

Lt. Turki Al-Gossaibi, spokesman for the Border Guards in Jazan, said 3,570 infiltrators, including 66 smugglers, had been arrested in the region last week. He added that 573 blocks of hashish, 10 bottles of liquor, 268 heads of cattle, 13 cars and 48,072 kg of Qat and various sums of cash had also been confiscated. Al-Gossaibi said one of the smugglers also died during a raid.

Maj. Gen. Ibrahim bin Muhammad Al-Aidi, commander of the Border Guards in Jazan, called on citizens to support the work that they do.
