- MADINAH: Newspaper bureaus in Madinah are hampered by a new order issued by the municipality requiring them to get licenses in order to set up bureaus to pursue their profession.
“All newspaper bureaus should obtain license in code 509 for publishing and distribution and they would not be allowed to operate without a regular license,” the municipality circular said.
The order quoted from an explanation given by the mayor in reply to a letter received from the chairman of the Al-Oyoun municipality with regard to an application for permission from Al-Watan daily to transfer its bureau to a new office on Sultanah Road.
The circular said, “The representative of the newspaper should obtain a license to open a shop. But the representative refused to comply saying that a newspaper need not have a municipal license.”
The circular said municipalities should make it binding on all newspaper bureaus to get a license for publishing and distribution and not be allowed to work without the license.
