- JEDDAH: Yanbu municipality has shut down 10 shops for consistently not complying with food safety regulations.
- Fines have been slapped on another 116 shops while 53 shops were issued warnings for repeated violations of health and safety rules.
Eng. Abdul Aali Al-Sheikh, chairman of the Yanbu municipality, said inspectors from the municipality have visited some 1,953 commercial shops and food outlets in the city.
He said fines totaling SR45,400 have been collected from 116 shops, and that samples of 380 food items and 51 water products have also been collected and tested in the municipality's laboratory.
He added that some 146 kg of foodstuffs deemed unfit for human consumption have also been seized and destroyed.
Al-Sheikh said the municipality has issued 31 new licenses for shops. Some 140 shop workers have also been sent to polyclinics to undergo necessary medical tests, he added.
